I FINALLY tried my hand at making homemade salsa and all I can say is, why the heck did I wait so long?!?! It’s SO easy and tastes SO good! It’s the perfect compliment to any Mexican fiesta!

Homemade salsa is a great appetizer when hosting parties, to take to parties and tailgates, too. It travels really nicely in a mason jar. So pretty too, don’t you agree?

Servings 4 cups

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup cilantro finely chopped
  • 1/3 cup onion finely chopped
  • 1/2 green pepper diced
  • 1 Tbsp diced pickled jalapenos or more to taste
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 lime squeezed
  • 5 fresh tomatoes diced (vine-ripened tastes THE best)

Instructions

  1. If you’ve finely hand-chopped and diced everything, just mix together and enjoy!

  2. If you’re using a food processor or blender, no need to finely chop everything and keep reading:

  3. Coarsely chop cilantro, onions, green peppers and place them along with the rest of the ingredients except the tomatoes in your food processor or blender. Pulse slowly (speed 4 if using a Vitamix Blender) 4 or 5 time for 1 or 2 seconds at a time. Cut your tomatoes into eighths and add to blender/processor. Continue pulsing until your salsa has reached the desired consistency, being careful not to over-blend! And taste-test frequently! 😉

  4. Makes about 4 cups of salsa.

Recipe Notes

If using the Vitamix, salsa will be a little watery at first, but will become less watery as it sits out or after it’s refrigerated.

Use fresh jalapenos instead of picked for more of a kick.

Homemade Salsa

My family and I are now addicted to this homemade salsa. Or is it technically pico de gallo? In either case, it tastes SO fresh and SO delicious and is extremely easy to make. You can make it with spicier by adding some fresh jalapenos or zestier by adding more jarred diced jalapeno. It’s great with chips, on top of tacos, in and/or on burritos and even as a dressing on Mexican salads (or even regular salads, for that matter!)

I hope you and your family enjoy this homemade salsa as much as we do, too!

In terms of equipment, I don’t own a food processor so I pretty much do all of my “food processing” using the pulse feature on my Vitamix. It works pretty well for the most part, but I do have to be extra careful not to over-blend things. The Nutribullet works pretty well, too!

Thanks so much for stopping by! Feel free to make my day by leaving me a comment, following my blog via email, on Facebook or on Instagram. The more the merrier, of course!
