* Note: Before I start, I just found this post sitting in my drafts folder, finished for who knows how long, just waiting to be published. This was from the fall and I found it today as I was getting ready to post another Volunteering at School Lunches. I’ll just save that one for next week. ANYhoo….

Wednesday is my declared school volunteering day. I start as early as 9:30 am to work on “Snap Words” aka spelling words with each individual child in Little Sis’ 1st grade class. It’s been such a rewarding experience working with these sweet, determined little kids. And oh man, they are all so cute!!

These mornings are pretty busy because not only do I pack their lunches, I pack mine, too. I’m typically there until around 1:30pm, if not later on occasion!

Here’s what I packed for the girls:

Volunteering at School Lunches #1

In this Volunteering at School Lunches #1 lunch:

  1. 365 Organic Cheese Ravioli
  2. Homemade Little Bites (aka mini chocolate chip muffins) and store-bought Little Bites for Big Sis since Little Sis already ate her allotment
  3. Danimals
  4. Grapes for Little Sis
  5. Sabre Classic Hummus and Sugar Snap Peas from Trader Joe’s
  6. Crispy Bagel Bites
  7. Organic Applesauce from Trader Joe’s in my Yummi Pouches!

And my lunch…

Volunteering at School Lunches #1

In this lunch:

  1. Whole Wheat Pita Sandwich with Applegate Cooked Ham and Provolone cheese, organic baby spinach, mayo and a nice slathering of my favorite Wickles! Relish with zest!
  2. Grapes
  3. Sugar Snap Peas
  4. Organic Grate Tomatoes

Then, a morning of snap words leads right into “Lunch Bunch” once again w/ Little Sis’ class where I read to 7 kids (my very own included) while they eat their lunch in the classroom. This is where I get to see Little Sis go to town on her the lunches I pack for her, especially since Wednesday is typically a day when they bring their lunch. Just love to watch that little girl eat! In all my haste of opening thermoses, gogurts, pudding cups, etc, I just didn’t get a chance to snap up a pic of her and her lunch. Oh well.

After lunch, I finish up Snap Words with them  (it’s a long process) which leads right up to Big Sis’ lunch. What great timing! I’ve been coming in to have lunch with Big Sis since she was in Kindergarten but I must say, I’ve never enjoyed it as much as I do now. Big Sis and her friends have become so much more interactive and just plain fun to hang around. Not that they weren’t before, but it’s really cool to see how they’ve all grown throughout the years.

Here’s Big Sis w/ her lunch. She was gobbling it up until something flew into it (or near it) we’re not sure, so of course, she lost her appetite for it. haha. But luckily there wasn’t much left.

She finishes off lunch with some yummy applesauce in her yummy pouch w/ a smile on her face.

And with Big Sis’ lunch done, it is time for me to go back home and chill out – WHEW! Those kids sure can tired me out! But I love to do it and am incredibly lucky to be able to.

Thanks so much for stopping by! Feel free to make my day by leaving me a comment, following my blog via email, on Facebook or on Instagram. The more the merrier!
