It’s Snack Time at School!

Let’s be honest, as much as I want to my girls to have a healthy lunch packed by Mommy every day, it just doesn’t always happen. Sometimes my girls really want what’s on that school lunch menu and sometimes I just don’t feel like making lunch *GASP*!! But even on those days, I still don’t get a complete break from packing something because we STILL have to send in a snack. PHOOEY!

Today (Monday) was one of those days – the girls wanted Cheese Pizza off the school menu so here’s the snack I sent in with them. And these days are precisely why I bought these LunchBot Trios a couple years back. They are the perfect size and they make snacks look so fun and yummy. And yes, even fun to pack, especially when you keep it simple like this.

Snack Time at School

In snack #1:

  1. Rold Gold Pretzel Sticks
  2. Peeled Snacks Berry AppleClusters – They’re Organic and a great fresh fruit alternative!
  3. NOW Real Food’s Organic Popcorn
  4. Treat of the day: Thanks-A-Lot Girl Scout Cookies

Update 3/14/13: Decided to add the rest of my snacks this week. 🙂

Tuesday, the girls wanted to buy chicken nuggets at school (Little Sis changed her mind and ended up getting Italian Beef-a-roni instead) so this is what I sent along as Snack #2 this week.

In snack #2:

  1. Wasa Sesame Thin Crackers and a Laughing Cow Light Creamy Swiss Pie Wedge
  2. Peeled Snacks AppleClusters (they’re organic) & Sunmaid Raisin, healthy fresh fruit alternative for Big Sis
  3. Raspberries and Blueberries on a sword for Little Sis who LOVES fresh fruit (yay!)
  4. GoGo Squeez AppleCinnamon and AppleApple Sauce
  5. Treat of the day: Homemade Frosted Sugar Cookies

I packed the girls lunch on Wednesday because neither wanted Teriyaki Chicken w/ Steamed Rice nor Vegetarian Hot Pockets, but Thursday, their favorite day to buy was Cheese Dunkers or Corn Dog Nuggets. Little Sis was definitely getting Cheese Dunkers, but these are Big Sis’ top 2 favorites, so we’ll see what she goes with, but here’s their Snack #3:

In snack #3:

  1. Homemade Granola Bars
  2. Red Grapes for Little Sis and Peeled Snacks AppleClusters (they’re organic) for Big Sis
  3. Betty Crocker’s Banana Bread with ground flax seed, wheat germ and chocolate chips instead of nuts
  4. GoGo Squeez AppleCinnamon and AppleApple Sauce
  5. Treat of the day: Banana Cupcakes I found on Pinterest topped with Whipperberry’s Simple Vanilla Buttercream Frosting

And if you’ve noticed that there’s a treat in every snack, that’s because I asked myself (and answered) this question back when I first started this blog: To Treat or Not To Treat?!?

Ok, it’s Friday now! And it’s been an unprecedented week of buying school lunches 4 times this week. Granted, I don’t want this to become a regular occurrence, but I do love that the girls (Big Sis in particular) have been expanding their taste buds to try different things at school. This week Little Sis tried Italian Beef-a-roni and even liked it (and I just love hearing her say it – cracks me up). Big Sis tried Fish Nuggets (last week) and even though she wasn’t crazy about it, she went out on a limb and actuall TRIED it! Plus, I try to offset their lunches with healthy snacks.

So here’s today’s snacks:

In snack #4:

  1. Homemade Cheese-Its – Yes, that’s what I said, HOMEMADE CHEESE ITS!
  2. Red Grapes for Little Sis and Crispy Green Freeze-Dried Apples for Big Sis
  3. Raspberry Muffins from my Muffins Galore: Momables’ Blueberry Muffins and then some – taken right out of the freezer and cut into cubes for easier eating
  4. Kraft Polly-O String Cheese. Unfortunately, these are the only ones Little Sis likes because they are multi-colored and fun to peel.
  5. Treat of the day: No treat packed today because on Fridays, they are allowed to buy one at school.

That’s it! This was their week of snacks. Maybe I’ll go back and eventually add in that lunch I packed for them on Wednesday!
