Sick Days with Little Sis

Last week, on Easter Sunday, Little Sis came down with a fever that kept her from going over to friends’ house for lunch. It lead to no school Monday and Tuesday because her fever didn’t break until she woke up Tuesday morning. Wednesday, we just declared recuperating day! It was just a low-grade fever with some very minor congestion and coughing. Turns out that 5-6 other kids in her class were out with the exact same thing! Gotta love kindergarten germs! Little Sis had a fun up-coming weekend planned, which included hotel pool with Nana and Papa, Big Sis and her cousins, so I wanted to make sure she was back to tip-top shape before sending her back into the germ-infested institution known as Kindergarten. 🙂 She was still pretty wiped out, so I think it was a good call. And I must admit, I just loved it.

Here’s how we spent much of our days:

Her first day home, she started out seemingly fine and got a BUNCH and I mean BUNCH of games out that she wanted to play and we pretty much tackled them all. “Balloon Galloon” (aka Balloon Lagoon – I just LOVE that she still calls it that!) was one of our faves.

But then it hit and this is pretty much what the little sweetie was like for 2 days. 🙁 She did a lot of tv watching and napping, but no whining or crying because this little one just rolls with the punches, even when she isn’t feeling well.

Then came our day of recouping. It was a much better day. 🙂

We started the day out with more games. This time Chicken Foot was our game of choice. She was tickled at the craaaaazy chicken foot we had created. I think her expression shows very well just how crazy it was.

Shortly thereafter came lunch. She was hungry and asked for hot dogs, so hot dogs she got! I was happy to oblige because I LOVE THEM TOO we had just bought some Applegate hot dogs: NO preservatives or Nitrates added. And of course, her favorite mac and cheese.

As luck would have it, it was a GORGEOUS day. The first nice day we had in a LONG time. So OF COURSE I had to pack lunch in my EasyLunchboxes and take ’em outside! Here are our Mommy-and-Me lunches:

Sick Days with Little Sis Mommy and Me Lunch in Easy Lunchboxes
In this lunch:
  1. Applegate Naturals Hotdogs w Nature’s Own 100% Whole Wheat Bread (No High Fructose Corn Syrup!)
  2. Annie’s Homegrown Bunny Mac and Cheese
  3. Spinach Salads (mine on the left, hers on the right)
  4. Cantaloupe for Little Sis (mine didn’t even make it into the ELB I scarfed it down so fast!)
  5. Chocolate Mousse Filled Cupcakes – yummers! I had made these for Easter but Little Sis never got a chance to even taste one. Turns out that she’s just not a fan of chocolate mousse and frosting so she just ended up eating the dug out parts I had saved from when I made this. Funny little girl.
I’m not sure exactly WHAT I was thinking packing her such a big lunch. She can normally house this entire meal almost as quickly as I can, but after a couple of days of being sick, she just wasn’t up for all that much. But she still put a pretty good dent in it.

Our Mommy-and-Me lunches taken outside to enjoy the PERFECT weather.

We got to enjoy the view of the lovely woods behind our house. Sad to say that developers are trying to turn them into yet another single-street neighborhood. These woods used to be twice as wide before they put the first one in a few years back. You don’t know how sad that makes me! Nothing’s been approved (yet) so keep your fingers crossed for us that they won’t be able fit enough houses in to make it worth their while!! In the meantime, we’re trying to enjoy it as much as we can.

Here’s Little Sis taking a break from lunch and looking for that bird that was just chirping away during our lunch.

Then after lunch, it was time to swing,

and even do flips! Yes, I think she’s feeling much better. 🙂

And finally, I left her to her own devices playing with rocks and rubber mulch while I kept an eye on her from my kitchen window cleaning up from lunch. What a lucky girl I am to have such a wonderful view. The best view in the house, if you ask me! 🙂

Not too long after our extended lunch, Big Sis came home and we all headed off to her soccer practice for some more time enjoying the beautiful day. And we totally lucked out because the next day it got cold and rainy – AGAIN!

After such a lovely day with Little Sis, I decided that Big Sis will need a “mental health” day of her own, very soon, so we can spend some nice mommy-Big Sis time, too. 🙂

Update (4/29/13): Just gotta add this awesome collage Kelly at EasyLunchboxes put together to feature this post on her page. Thanks a bunch, Kelly! <3

Sorry she was sick, but glad it gave you some fun quality time to just enjoy each other! We love chicken foot, too. My little one is obsessed with dominos right now. I need to teach him how to play that one! Thank you for linking to 15 MInute Fridays!
