The girls are done with school and have a whole week off between grades (they are Track 3 in year-round schools) and we made grand plans to spend it with the hubby’s entire side of the family in Michigan, cousins and all. There are all sorts of fun things planned and we’ve been talking it up for months, so of course the girls were beside themselves with excitement, particularly Little Sis…
It figures that I would get a pop-up notification on my phone last night at 11:30pm to tell me my flight was canceled. My 7:30am flight was canceled and they notified me at 11:30pm! Good thing we’re not like normal people and weren’t already in bed. But at least I GOT a notification! It could have been much worse. I have no idea why it was cancelled, though we have our guesses, because I never actually spoke to anyone in person. About 10 minutes later, I got an automated call with our re-booked flight info… for the day after! All that was after they changed our return flight and snuck in a 5 hour layover without even telling us! Poor Little Sis is going to be devastated.
Come this morning, I found it really hard to muster the courage to wake this little sweetie up only to tell her our flight to Michigan’s been cancelled and re-booked for tomorrow but we need to still drive Daddy and Big Sis to theirs (we used frequent flyer miles which ended up splitting us on separate flights and airlines).
*Oops, just got busted. Little Sis saw this picture of her up on my Facebook page and was NOT happy about it. lol. From now on, no posting sleeping pictures of her, sniff, sniff.
I’m happy to report that although she did breakdown into a heartbreaking cry for about 5 minutes, she snapped out of it and was in pretty good spirits and as smiley as can be. But she wouldn’t let me take a picture to prove it… haha.
- Frankie’s Fun Park followed up by Adventure Landing and then Pelican’s Sno-Balls and MORE mini-golf (Big Sis’ dream come true scenario – notice there’s no actual food involved)?
- Dave and Busters (one of my least favorite places on Earth but I threw that out there anyway)
- IHOP
- Breakfast wrap from NC Bagel Cafe’ & Deli
- Bruggers’ breakfast sandwich
- Go to a park
- Have a friend over
- Carnival games
- Five Below (I detest this place, but I’m willing to take one for this girl!)
- Target to shop and a slushie for breakfast
..chill on the couch with her iPad, headphones and Minecraft you-videos (please disregard the unfolded laundry on the floor!)…
… eat pizza for breakfast at 10:30am, just like her mama did an hour before (heehee) …
… watch an episode of Victorious and then Alvin and the Chipmunks, lol.
… and then livened up to play carnival games! Luckily, we already had some set up, thanks to her end-of-year class party a couple days before and we eagerly added 4 more! The constant smile on her face and excitement in her voice while yapping away as we were setting up and playing carnival was a gift and definitely an indication that much of the sting off disappointment had warn off. She repeatedly told me how much she loved it and that she was having SO much fun… as did I.
After all the carnival fun was had, she ate a simple little lunch:
… and then a friend, after seeing my sad facebook post, invited her to the pool today, which finally spurred me to renew my Y membership so we wouldn’t have to invite ourselves over to our friends’ pools. So, see, I even joined the pool just for her! haha.
After about 4 hours at the pool, I took them out to dinner to Little Sis’ favorite place – Panera!
and a stop by Dairy Queen for a chocolate dipped cone.
All in all, it was a good day. She asked me more than several times throughout the day what I thought Daddy and Big Sis were doing at that moment or where they were, but she took it pretty well. As we pulled into our garage at the end of a fun-filled day, she remarked “I can’t believe my sister and Daddy aren’t home. I miss them so much.” Sniff, sniff. We’ll see them tomorrow! And to make absolute SURE that, we will even get to get up at 4:30 am to head to the airport because I DO NOT plan on missing this one! Wish us luck because what the hell am I still doing up at 11:39pm ?!?!
Thanks so much for stopping by! Feel free to make my day by leaving me a comment, following my blog via email, on Facebook or on Instagram – the more the merrier!

Because I just couldn't resist! 😉 What's done is done and she was ok w/ it at the end, but I did promise not to post any more pix like that w/o her permission. Anyway, I figured not too many actually read my blog… lol. So I really appreciate you stopping by! Thanks, Ilya!
